The presentation

Overall I think I went well with this presentation. Of course time was a factor which made it hard to get everything I wanted done. I have posted some more panels below that I thought were really good.

Final Design

The final design has been named the HSW Supper Club the ultimate destination for dining, drinking and entertaining.

Concept

Howard smith wharves have been used over time by Brisbane shipping companies however in recent years it has been left abandoned. The history of the site and the stunning views were left, making it a beautiful place in need of renovation and repair. This is how I came up with my concept of abandoned beauty. This has meant that this design is a continuation of my folie design for this site using wrapped concrete to create flow and beauty, however, separating or abandoning it from the world.

Social identity

After researching other clubs in the Brisbane area, I noticed that my proposed club would be in the middle linking the clubs from the valley to th ones in the city. I also thought it important that the supper club was more than just a club, but also cater for the general public during the day by having a cafe that has on one side a take away bar for pedestrians and tourists using the area for leisure.
Another important part to look at is the transport to the club. I felt it important to have a small car park for use mainly by disabled elderly and persons with young children, however I wanted to push for public transport as there are residential buildings nearby and wanted tonstay on good terms with them. It is only a close walk to ferry, bus and train as well as people going by foot and bike as it links up to the existing river walk.

The design

You can see the overall site the heritage listed buildings in front. Then the new supper club behind to the left of the story bridge with landscaping all around. The supper club during the day is a fine place for people and pedestrian who are in need of a break in the cafe. The cafe has a take away entry for pedestrians, using the space as a thoroughfare. it is somewhat hidden by the ribbon external structure abandoning it from the outside world.

The supper club hosts 3 lvels. The ground with the reception and cafe bistro, level 1 with the stage for live music bar and amenities, and level 2 containing a space and bar for use for events and function. This level also hosts access to the private bar and lounge.

Overall digitally the design of this is very simple yet elegant as is the same as the site of Howard smith wharves, however with a very modern touch.

Nearly there!

It's the last stretch, with the final tutorial having taken place this week. This gave me a chance to get a final understanding that I was on the right track and now I just need to work to finalizing my design.

Overall I am really happy with my design. I still need to work out the interior spaces but at the moment I am happy with it. I think this is a good thing, as I was not happy with my design for assignment two. Hopefully now I will do better as I am happy with it.

I have started looking at different layouts for the interior.  I am following in the original patterns of the ribbons to see what could come out of it for the floors.

Ribbons

Ribbons come in various widths, yet no matter what they are flowing. My building is made of glass with what looks like ribbons going around it, somewhat wrapping the glass block together.
As I am happy with the basic exterior, I am now going to build upon this in the interior and possibly the overall landscape of the site. I will concentrate more on the interior for now as the landscapes more a bonus.

Another lot of renders!!

Playing with coloured lights in Revit.  Some didnt come out as well as I would have liked.  Need to work out how to change the intensity of the light, or possibly look at other lighting effects other than from the floor.  The internal one has come out really good.  I think that a room like that would be quite fun.  It is amazing how it changes the building from day to night.

This would look really good when the other levels have lights in them... and possibly the exterior have better lighting.

By far my favourite photo!!! I love the blue and the pink together.  This is the entry, so there is no glass on the walls, just the concrete as seen.  It is a completely open public space with hardly any separation between the inside and outside.

External Lighting Study

I have decided to look at different options regarding external lighting effects.  It is quite amazing how different changing the colour can make a building.  Where the light is can change the over look of the building and highlight different aspects of it.

It is my thought that there will be an option for all these lighting effects to make the building come alive, and become an icon for Brisbane.

Reflection

After the tutorial tonight, I have come to realise that the wonderland theme I was going to do, is not fitting in with the concept and design I want to do.  My approach of having a basic exterior, and a lively interior is not working due to the interior being too busy. Having different themes in each room does not work with my original concept of 'Abandoned Beauty'.

Due to this I am now going to try a more minimalist approach to the interior, to follow on with my concept.  Hopefully by doing this, my building will look more as one, than multiple different experiences.
